What university courses are best for finding a job

Ever wondered what to study at University to stand the best chance of finding a job at the end of your degree? Data from the Daily Telegraph’s University Course Finder reveals some interesting results. “What university courses are best for finding a job ”

Unsurprisingly, top of the tree for finding a job after graduating are medicine and dentistry. With 99.4% of graduates finding a job or further study within 6 months.  92% walked straight into a job.

Degree subjects allied closely to medicine such as Biomedical Sciences and Neurology had a 91.8% success rate. When it came to finding work quickly and not to leave out our furry friends. 91.9% of vets were also either in work or undertaking further courses of study just 6 months after graduating.

Those in the know tell us that science degrees are one of the best choices of study for future job prospects and there is currently a shortage of people (especially girls) wanting to study them choosing instead more popular subjects like Business and Media. What are known as the ‘STEM’ jobs (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) have been predicted by experts to be the areas of highest job growth and they would seem to be right with 87.1% of Biological Science graduates, 86.5% of maths graduates 85.4% of engineering graduates in work or study 6 months after graduating.

Perhaps surprisingly, coming a close second to medicine when it comes to finding a job is teaching. With 92.6% of those graduating either finding employment or a further study placement straight away. Proving teachers are still in great demand.

Law has always been viewed as a subject pretty much guaranteed to get you a well-paid job. At the end of your degree and that is still true today with 88.6% finding work or study straight away.

With the world becoming an ever smaller place in terms of business. Languages are not surprisingly in great demand with 86% of language graduates finding jobs with ease.

A more surprising inclusion in the top 12 degrees to study for a rosy outlook when job hunting. Are graduates of historical and philosophical studies but 85.4% of them had landed jobs or further studies within 6 months of leaving university. They beat graduates of both physics and computer science.

85.2% of architecture students (including building and planning) had found jobs or further study placements within 6 months and last but not least 85% of business degree graduates had found work or further study within that timeframe which considering it is still the most popular course to study with the largest number of graduates and so greatest amount of competition for jobs, is no mean feat.
