Hardware Engineering Manager

You will be responsible for delivering, managing and developing the hardware engineering team in planning for and delivering all hardware-based activities. You will also establish the resource plan to meet pipeline demand, acting as the senior technical authority for the team, decision maker on approach and priorities, client liaison for all customer engagements, quality assurance and business reporting.

Our lovely client based in Portsmouth is looking for A self-motivated individual and confident decision maker that will be responsible for the day to day running and planning of the Engineering Team.

You will be accountable for:

  • Defining the pipeline demand and planning the team resource to meet business requirements.
  • You will ensure all work assigned to the team is completed efficiently, in a timely fashion and liaise as required to ensure successful outcomes for the customers.
  • You will support the Director with requested reports, analysis, engineering resource and provide technical advice in situations affecting the effective delivery of any of the department’s services as well as providing for the line management of all Engineering team members.

Role Requirements: 

  • Proven experience of managing and organising a team
  • Experience in demand and resource planning.
  • Broad technical knowledge and ability to support and develop skills within the Engineering Team
  • Advanced PC skills using a range of products (Office, 365, SharePoint, Visio)
  • Meticulous nature and organisation skills
  • Excellent customer interaction
  • Technical mindset and ability to problem solve
  • Flexible and enthusiastic, able to work on own initiative
  • Ability to work with colleagues and be a confident communicator across all levels
  • Clean driving licence and a Valid Passport IS A MUST
  • Ability to pass BS7858:2012 security vetting

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day to day management of the hardware engineering team, including but not limited to training, development, safety, recruitment and team scheduling
  • Documentation creation and proofreading IMS, RAMS, site surveys, process and procedures, health and safety,
  • Proofreading and vetting engineering raised documentation
  • Management reporting and monitoring of department covering utilisation, costs, and effectiveness
  • Provide senior technical experience and guidance around hardware engineering-based activities and maintain relevant accreditations where required
  • Work with pre-sales and sales team to survey and price engineering activities.
  • Work with pre-sales and sales team to enhance and develop the ITLM offering
  • Act as senior escalations for engineering activities and client facing interaction
  • Contact point for engineering clients regarding scheduling, activities, reports, rams, site surveys and problems
  • Work with other business units to ensure smooth operation of the department’s activities
  • Any other activities to keep department operating

Knowledge needed: 

  • Co-ordinating and managing staff travelling overseas
  • Advanced office software (word, excel, powerpoint, visio)
  • X86, SPARC, Power, HP-UX enterprise hardware
  • Health & safety / RAMS
  • Manual handling, loading and risk
  • Electrical understanding around mains power, single phase, 3-phase, DC, connectors, cables and PDU’s
  • Structure cabling and patch cabling styles types and dressing
  • Data/metadata structure and erasure
  •  Scripting or programming

Experience Required: 

  • Managing and co-ordinating a team in a relevant field
  • Teaching and working with varied engineers of varied skill sets
  • Managing stressful situations
  • Frontline client interaction
  • Working in corporate and enterprise datacentres
  • Building, racking and configuring corporate/enterprise IT equipment
  • Cabling and power used in corporate environments

This role is based in Portsmouth and is paying a salary of £30,000 to £35,000.
