Junior Hardware Engineer

*Filed based role located in Portsmouth*

Role Purpose

  • Provide technical skills associated with hardware builds, installs, decommissioning and migrations
  • Maintain technical relationship with customers to ensure that customers’ expectations are being managed and exceeded

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support in scoping activities to structure specific delivery solutions, ensuring customers’ expectations can be met within the planned parameters on timing, costs and use of resources.
  • Engineering resource providing hardware build/assembly, installation, cabling and decommissioning service in line with customer requirements onsite or off
    • Hardware builds (x86/x64), diagnostics testing, firmware changes
    • Datacentre activity fundamentals and rack construction
    • Power configurations and calculations
    • Cabling technologies, interfaces and specifications
    • Operating system installation & basic configuration
    • Client configuration loading (eg: switch, router, firewalls and load balancers)
    • Image deployments (eg: MDT, WDS, PXEboot)
    • Data erasure techniques and data erasure methodologies
    • Risk assessments and method statements creation
    • Hardware fault diagnosis and warranty management
    • Adhere to Health & Safety and Risk Management procedures during all activities both at Bell and on customer sites
    • Understand and remain current with industry best practise and published vendor guideline documentation in regards to hardware builds, installations or decommissioning
    • Create and maintain technical process and procedural documents
    • Maintain effective communication with management and customer account teams to keep fully appraised of all hardware activities
    • As required, acquire relevant IT industry qualifications to fulfil Bell Integration partner status with suppliers

Qualifications:

Essential

  • IT back ground and experience with enterprise technologies (such as IBM, Oracle, Cisco, Microsoft)
  • Experience working within, and supporting members within a team
  • Delivering policies, and procedures to help improve our approach and methodologies
  • Experience participating in large scale projects
  • Hardware engineering skills across heterogeneous environments
  • Windows, Linux, Unix, VMware vSphere, Hyper-V knowledge and skills
  • Blancco product skills/knowledge
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards and risk management
  • Knowledge of and understanding of best practice in carrying out installs and decomms

Other requirements

  • Clean manual driving licence
  • Valid passport
  • Ability to pass BS7858:2012 vetting
  • Ability to hold UK NSV SC clearance
  • Ability to travel to customer sites, including overnight stays
  • Able to work out of hours including night and weekend work

Hours: Standard working hours Mon-Fri with occasional ‘on call hours’ (you will be paid extra for)

Salary: £18,000-£20,000
