The beginning of my journey

The beginning of my journey

When Ricky Martin won the ‘The Apprentice’ in 2012 he decided to set up a recruitment consultancy. Dealing with scientific recruitment. He was fortunate enough to have Lord Sugar as his business partner.  But even with that head start he realised setting up a recruitment agency was going to be a challenge. Having worked as an employee in recruitment for over 20 years I can completely understand his trepidation.

Anyone deciding to start their own business will understand that feeling. As an employee you are used to having an infrastructure and operation at your disposal, as the head of your own business you realise how much you take that for granted. “The beginning of my journey”

When Ricky Martin was asked the hardest thing about setting up a company he said ‘it was the shock of day one. I enjoy working with people … naturally recruiters are people persons. So to start a company as the only member of staff is a big shock to the system. You suddenly have to wear 5 hats instead of just one – you become the HR Manager, the Credit Controller, the Accountant, Operations Manager and so on.’

6 months in from starting Journey Recruitment I am delighted that I took the plunge.

After all this time working for other people, I wanted to embrace the challenge of doing it for myself. Building the kind of Recruitment Agency I would want to use if I was looking for a job or if I was looking to recruit. Recruitment Agencies don’t always have a great name…”we didn’t hear back from them”, “they never return my calls”…”I always speak to a different person” and so on. And that’s one of the reasons I love being in recruitment!

Basically if you do a great job, you really do stand out and you really can make a difference to peoples’ lives. Changing your job can be a life-changing experience and it is an honour to be part of this. We don’t promise miracles and we don’t promise to be able to help everybody, but we do promise to do our best!

Journey recruitment is an independent, modern consultancy with old fashioned values. Thriving on pushing boundaries and always go that extra mile every step of the way for our clients and candidates. We take the time to listen and understand your requirements as we are interested in the long-term journey and not quick, one-off fixes. We understand that we are working with people and not just numbers and we operate in an honest, open manner, creating a strong consultative approach.

At the moment, there are just 3 of us, but who knows what the future may bring! We work very much as a team.  We work hard but have a lot of fun as well and we enjoy a great deal of interaction with other companies within Cyber House in Wokingham, which is very much a “Business Community”.

I have been overwhelmed by the success of the company in literally just 6 months. I would like to thank all the supportive candidates and clients that have placed their trust in us.

Watch this space!! The beginning of my journey has started,

“Good luck – The beginning of my journey”

Journey Recruitment hopes you have a great day.
