Mental Health Awareness Week. (13th to 19th May 2019)

From 13th to 19th May 2019, our Journey Recruitment team are here to support the Mental Health Awareness week, which is focusing this year on body image. It is okay not to feel okay but remember, we are all perfect in our own way.

Beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. It’s about knowing and accepting who you are.

Love your body because you only have one.

This is your body and your body only. So, own it!! You are unique and beautiful in your own way, EMBRACE IT. We all have different coloured eyes, different shaped noses, different body types – that’s the way we are meant to be. It’s the way we were born!

It can sometimes be hard to truly accept who we are, and this is sometimes due to the pressures of social media where we often compare our face or our body to others. According to research from Doves recent Self Esteem project, 21 % of us believe that the bulk of that pressure now comes from social media; evidence of which comes from the fact that the average selfie takes a whopping 20 minutes to get right, while 42 per cent of us admit to de-tagging a less than flattering photo of ourselves.

I think most of us are guilty for putting filters or edits on our photos, or perhaps you have been tagged in a photo and thought “I look terrible” … but what we need to remind ourselves is this isn’t reality!!

  1. Look at what your body can do.

Your arms can carry things, your leg muscles help you sit, dance, stand. Your face muscles help you talk, smile, show emotions. Your core holds you upright, your body is strong. Look at all that it has come through and fought against. Your body is amazing in how it can heal itself. It’s amazing!

  1. Take a break.

Sometimes, we forget that it is okay to stop, and simply take a break. Take a break from Social Media, unfollow those that make you feel down and aren’t benefitting your life in any way. Take a break if you have been working your socks off at the gym or a diet for weeks, and one evening you are tired and just want to sit down with a cup of tea and a piece of cake. IT IS OKAY. There are no rules when it comes to making your mind healthier and happier, it is your life and your body only!

  1. Practice body gratitude.

Showing gratitude for your body and life is so powerful for your mind. It will only create positive energy and send positive vibrations out to the universe. When you wake up in the morning, say “thank you”. Thanks for being alive, thanks for being healthy, thanks for trying every day. Look in the mirror and say, “I am FABULOUS!”. Perhaps write on a note what you are grateful for in your life right now, or what you really love about yourself. Or possibly even goals that you really want to work on and stick it on your wall. Somewhere you can see the note when you first wake up. Read it every morning and every night before you go to sleep, I promise your aspect on life and the way you feel about certain things will change.

“What you give out to the universe is what you will receive”. – Rhonda Byrne
