What to wear for an interview

In today’s job market, where employers may potentially interview dozens of people for one position, first impressions are more important than ever. If you’re wondering what to wear for an interview, the most important thing to bear in mind is that you must look professional and polished.  While your interview attire can sometimes depend on what job you are applying for, no matter what the position, you should go in looking neat, tidy and well dressed. Interestingly enough, if you get the look ‘right’ it is likely to be noticed but not necessarily commented on. However if you get it wrong, then it can be difficult or to overcome the employer’s negative preconceptions about you. What to wear for an interview can be important.

The right image is one that helps the employer easily visualise you as one of their team

To reassures them that you could represent the company appropriately as a member of staff. If you are unsure you can always visit the company website and look at their corporate literature for an idea of how they expect their employees to dress.

You want the interviewer to focus on your skills and qualifications rather than your clothing and so wearing solid colours helps ensure that your clothes will not distract.

If you wear a very brightly coloured suit or dress, you are more likely to be remembered for that, so neutrals are best and white is always an excellent colour for a shirt or blouse. You can certainly get away with adding a bit of colour to an interview outfit but pale colours rather than bright are best.

At the end of the day, if you look great, you’ll feel great and if you feel great there’s a much higher chance of you having a successful interview.
