Landing one job offer is exciting but getting two (or more) at the same time is a great problem to have.
However, it can be tricky to navigate.
We’ve seen candidates rush decisions, ghost employers, or unintentionally burn bridges all because they weren’t sure how to handle multiple offers professionally.
Here’s your guide to managing this situation with confidence and clarity:
Be honest (but strategic) about your timeline
Once you receive an offer, it’s okay, and even expected, to ask for time to consider it. Most employers will give you a few days, especially if you’re transparent.
If you’re waiting on another offer, don’t lie. Instead, say something like:
“I’m really excited about this opportunity and would love a couple of days to make an informed decision. I want to be respectful of your timeline, when do you ideally need an answer?”
This keeps communication open and professional.
Don’t ghost the other employer
Tempted to ignore the offer you’re less interested in? Don’t.
Even if you think you’ll never apply there again, industries are small, and reputations travel fast.
Politely decline if you’ve made your decision:
“Thank you so much for the opportunity and for the time spent during the interview process. After careful consideration, I’ve decided to accept another offer that aligns more closely with my current goals. I really appreciate the experience and wish your team continued success.”
You’re leaving the door open and maintaining a positive relationship.
Think about more than just salary
When comparing offers, don’t let the highest number automatically win.
Consider:
- Company culture & values
- Growth and development opportunities
- Work-life balance and flexibility
- Team dynamics
- Location or remote options
- Long-term stability
A slightly lower offer might come with stronger support, better wellbeing, or more meaningful work.
Talk to your recruiter
If you’re working with a recruiter (like us!), we’re here to guide you. Let us know what offers you have. We can help you weigh your options, negotiate if needed, and manage communication with employers on your behalf.
It’s our job to help you make the right choice, not just the quickest one.
Always Close the Loop
Once you’ve accepted an offer, let all other parties know as soon as possible. This is a professional courtesy that will protect your reputation and keep opportunities open in the future.
