Business Development Executive

Our client, a leading business based in Wokingham, Berkshire is looking to expand their sales and marketing team!

This role is perfect for a recent engineering university/college leaver looking to gain commercial experience.

This new role will primarily be focused on generating UK market opportunities. If you’re successful, you’ll help to find new business and will be responsible for building a pipeline of opportunities to win and convert new clients. You will play a pivotal role in growing revenue in line with business objectives and building our client’s reputation within the UK.

You will report to the Sales and Marketing Director and will work very closely with UK sales, marketing, technical team, customers and partners. A close relationship with the export department will be critical where UK/Export strategies/opportunities merge and travel to other company sites will be required from time to time.


Core responsibilities as a Business Development Executive:

  • Development of high-quality market research projects aligned with agreed target market sectors.

Further responsibilities:

  • Being responsible for research to produce heat maps of prospective clients in the UK, identifying where there may be appetite for our specialist services and the budget to procure these services.
  • Know the key decision makers in each organisation and sustain rapport with them by introducing them to key people and making periodic visits, exploring specific needs and anticipating new opportunities. Keep contacts informed of thought leadership and invite them to seminars, webinars and training as applicable.
  • Collating and maintaining qualified potential contacts on our database and ensuring it accurately reflects the potential value of the opportunity
  • Working closely & building real team collaboration with the designated UK Sales person responsible for the specific market sector
  • Reporting back findings and outcomes and document key conversations and opportunity
  • Clearly understand the expectations and goals to achieve a successful outcome
  • Understand fully the market sector key drivers
  • Gain a full understanding of the major market influencers & potential opportunities
  • Agree with the team the format of contact and help to develop the proposition or solutions which will entice connectivity with the target audience


  • Gain in-depth knowledge of our products and breadth of offer and be able to articulate them coherently.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments in trends, technologies and practices. Use this understanding to develop long-term strategic partnerships with clients
  • Have a clear understanding of the benefits, solutions and positioning of the various product offerings
  • Develop commercial understanding of business opportunities


  • Assist in preparation of tender and bid opportunities, ensuring our timely and effective response.
  • Be able to work closely with the marketing team to help with input in creating high quality customer communications
  • Identify key elements to help improve supporting initiatives such website content, literature, handouts, social media posts
  • Help identify potential appropriate exhibitions during market research process

Key Skills & Attributes

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification would be an advantage
  • Determined person who is prepared to work hard to develop this business development opportunity
  • High level of focus required with great team spirit
  • Prepared to continue developing personal skills and knowledge of the industry
  • Capable of delivering project work in a diligent manner and on time.


  • Salary: circa £23k
