Debt Recovery Paralegal

This is a great opportunity for LPC graduates who are looking for a year of work experience before starting a training contract!

Our client is looking for someone to assist fee earners in Department with legal support and able to provide an appropriate level of advice to clients in the course of providing that assistance.

Fixed Term contract until July 2023

Salary: £22,000 – £25,000 per annum

Working hours: Monday to Friday 09:00am – 17:30pm

Your responsibilities as a Debt Recovery Paralegal:

  • Dealing with the undefended debt recovery work for Clients (including debt recovery work in respect of unpaid Client invoices).
  • Assist Fee Earners on casework in legal areas of Dispute Resolution law
  • Assist in building own caseload of work
  • Be involved in some networking and develop contacts through business development activities to assist in the increase of the Firm’s client base
  • Assist in the achievement of Departmental Objectives and Firm-wide Objectives
  • Comply with the Firm’s procedures as set out in the Risk & Quality Manual (the up to date version of which is maintained on the Firm’s Intranet).
  • Comply with the Firm’s administration policies as set out in the Firm’s Staff Manual (the up to date version of which is maintained on the Firm’s Intranet).
  • Use the Firm’s legal software system to regularly review matter balance reports and to liaise with accounts department to ensure client details, etc. are correct
  • Use the Firm’s IT equipment for case work, diary and administration
  • Liaise with the credit controller to ensure that the Firm’s credit control procedures are adhered to and bad debts are kept to a minimum
  • Ensure accurate time recording of personal time and to ensure that time is posted in accordance with the Firm’s time recording procedures

You must have:

  • Deal with clients and other contacts in a professional manner
  • Maintain professional qualifications
  • Effective participation in Departmental meetings, Marketing and Business development initiatives

Qualifications & Experience:

  • University degree, or legal executive CILEX qualification are desirable
  • Knowledge of Court process and contract law at a relevant level
  • Effective prioritisation of workload and time management skills
  • Effective research and drafting skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Good I.T. literacy
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
